GETTING AROUND

Chicago is home to one of the world's best public transportation networks and is one of America’s most bikable and walkable cities. Get around Chicago in these many ways:

  • TRAIN: Chicago’s famous ‘L’ trains run all over the city, including to O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. Tickets can be purchased at any station kiosk or through the Ventra mobile app (www.ventrachicago.com). Single fares are $2.50, while unlimited rides (including buses) are $5 for a 1-day pass, $15 for 3-day pass and $20 for a 7-day pass. Visit the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) website (www.transitchicago.com) for systems maps, schedules, fare details, station accessibility and service alerts. Check arrival times and manage your fares on the Ventra mobile app.
  • BUS: The CTA runs buses on most large city streets and connects to all train lines. Fares can be purchases at train station kiosks or through the Ventra mobile app.
  • BIKE: Be it commuter routes like Roosevelt Rd and Wabash Ave or recreational routes like the Lakefront Trail and the 606, safe bike paths exist throughout the city! Divvy bikes and electric scooters can be rented from docking stations or unlocked through the Divvy app (www.divvybikes.com) or Lyft app. Remember to stick to well-marker bike lanes, stay off sidewalks and always wear a helmet!
  • RIDESHARE: Rideshares like Uber and Lyft are very active throughout the city. Use the associated apps to get a rideshare.
  • TAXI: Taxi services such as Flash Cab (773-561-4444), Yellow Cab (312-829-4222), Checker Taxi (312-243-2537) can be called directly or ordered through the ARRO (www.ridearro.com) or CURB (www.gocurb.com) apps. Check the City of Chicago’s website www.chicabs.org for more information on taxis in Chicago.
  • WALK: Chicago is one of the most walkable cities in America!
